“We at Rockport Early
Childhood Center would like
to take a moment and let
you know how happy we
were with your shipbuilding
program.  All materials you provided were age appropriate
as was the skill level for our preschoolers.  Your patience
and easy going manner
made for a stress and
pressure free opportunity
for the children to begin and complete a task they have
never attempted before.  Teachers as well as parents
were very pleased with the success of the shipbuilding program.  The children had
a great time using their imaginations while playing
with their newly made boats.  This activity kept them
busy and engrossed all day long.  Once again thank
you for a wonderful field trip,
we look forward to seeing
you again next year!”  (Robyn Salvanelli, head teacher)

FAMILY PROGRAMS

The Museum offers educational programs and activities for the littlest members of our community.  These programs are hands-on and each child brings home his or her own project!  Great for pre-schools and scout groups too.

Toy Boatbuilding
Come aboard for a fun-filled, hands-on adventure!  After exploring the Museum’s replica 18th century fishing schooner (if in port), we’ll build wooden models of it! Work at our Kid’s Bench to build and rig your own boat under the supervision of museum staff. After a stop at the paint station, give your boat a sea trial in our large water tank. The boats make a great souvenir to take home –and explore new worlds in the bathtub!  Applicable for kids ages 3-10.  $15 per child/boat.

T-Shirt Painting & Story
Spend part of your afternoon at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum.  Hear a storyteller tell a tale of adventure, then decorate a t-shirt with bright images using stamps and kid-safe paints or create your own design!  Includes story time,
t-shirt, juicebox and snack.  $10 per child/shirt
